How to install crystal chandeliers

Choosing the right chandeliers will add great ambiance and style for your home. However, there are wide range of chandeliers varying in design , finish, and size, selecting the ideal fit is no easy task and a big investment of our time. Even after you find the perfect chandelier, installation will be another headache for many of us as well. To help answer ing our customers' question s about chandelier installation , w e will take two type of chandelie r s , dining room chandelier (pendant style) and foyer chandelier (ceiling style), from SOFARY as examples to explain the installation process step by step.

NOTE: Before installing, you need to check with your house builder or the installer to make sure that your ceiling can support the weight of the chandelier. If you are not a professional electrician, you need to hire a professional electrician to do the electrical part of the installation .

After the base is installed and electric wires are connected, hanging the crystal strings should be straight forward. It does take some time and patience, but it is totally doableby yourself.Or you can hire a handy man to do it for you whose hourly rate will be much lower than a professionally electrician. 😊

STEP 1: Preparation

M ake sure that all the parts that you need for the product are available based on the instruction before starting the chandelier installation process . Also, we do recommend you have the electrician test the chandelier on the ground before installing it to the ceiling just to ensure that there is no damage during shipping.

2.Turn off the power

Turn off power at the circuit box to avoid possible electric shock.

Tips: To ensure safety, you can test with a measuring pen, or you can turn on the light switch to make sure the power is off.

STEP 2: Install the mounting bracket

Pendant light:	Ceiling light:

① Attach mounting bracket onto outlet box with machine screws from the box.	① Place mounting bracket on ceiling and mark out the points where you need to drill holes.


② Done !	② Insert the machine screws into the mounting bracket.


③ Attach the chandelier bracket onto the mounting bracket with threaded tube and hex nut provided.	③ Attach the bracket to the structural substrate with screws.

STEP 3: Determine length of the chain (N/A to ceiling chandelier )

You want to determine the proper length of the wire to achieve a desired height. Two factors will determine the length of the chain: the height of the chandelier and the distance between the bottom of the chandelier and the surface below, whether it is the floor or a dining table. You can adjust the chain length according ly based on your needs.

Tips:

1.If you are hanging the chandelier on an open floor, the chandelier’s bottom should at least be 7.5 feet away from the floor.

2.If you are hanging the chandelier above a dining table, the chandelier’s bottom should be 30 to 36 inches away from the tabletop.

3.While you are adjusting hanging cords, the suggested minimum height (from the ceiling to the top surface of the frame) should not be less than 10inch.

STEP 4: Adjust length of the chain (N/A to ceiling chan delier )

Step1: Press the pin down towards the ceiling canopy. This will release the cable locking mechanism.

Step2: While holding the pin in place, simply pull down (or push up) the cable. Repeat this for each cable to raise or lower the base of the chandelier and make sure that it is leveled horizontally.

Step3: Release the pin once you have adjusted the cable to the desired height, which will lock the cable.

STEP 5: Connect wires and install the canopy.

Most chandeliers, especially newer ones, have black and white lines. Connect the black/brown wire to the live wire, the white/blue wire to the neutral wire, and the yellow/green wires to the ground wire (optional). Attach the stripped end of the black power cord with the stripped end of the black/brown wire of the chandelier and screw them together with a wire nut. Do the same for the white/blue wire with the white power cord.

STEP 6: Remove protective film

Remove protective film on the canopy and chandelier base .

NOTE : This step must be done before installing crystal string s to the base .

STEP 7: Install the bulb

Refer to the light bulb information provided for the product on the instruction or on our website to select the correct light bulb type. T he product will require a specific type of light bulbs, like GU10. Y ou can choose LED or halogen light bulbs based on your preference . You can also decide what kind of color temperature that you want for the light bulbs , like daylight or warm white. In addition, y ou can even choose different colors for the light bulbs, like blue , yellow or green. Feel free to check here for more knowledge about light and light bulbs .

STEP 8: Install the crystal

Connect the crystal str ings to the chandelier by matching the assigned numbers of the string to the assigned number hooks on the chandelier base, which can be found on the instruction.

NOTE: Please check the assigned number of the crystal strings before installation, hang the matching crystal string to the corresponding hooks based the assigned number, and always hang the crystal string from inside to outside to avoid tangling them together!

STEP 9: Check

Congratulation, you have completed the installation for your chandelier! One last thing to do is to check it from a distant just to make sure that the crystal chandelier is leveled and at proper height. Make additional small adjustment as needed. After ensuring safety, you can turn on your house’s power switch and the light switch for the crystal chandelier. Nowyou can enjoy the beautiful chandelier that you just installed for your home.

There is a wide range of chandeliers varying in size, finish, and style, selecting the ideal fit is a tough task. In this blog, we are going to dive deep into how to choose the right chandelier, which will add great ambiance and style for your home.

Choose the right size chandelier is not an easy task as there are so many variables and sometimes we do not even know where to get started. What should be the right size for a chandelier? A small chandelier can easily get lost if it is a large space and cannot deliver a strong design element, while a large chandelier can be too overwhelming in a small space. The right chandelier is proportional to the height and width of the room as well as the furniture size in the room.

Here are several general rules that apply to most spaces:

1. How to determine the chandelier’s diameter

Measure spaces’ length and width in feet, sum them up and that will be approximate diameter for the chandelier in inches.

For example 16 feet (Room Length) + 8 feet (Room Width) = 24 feet; The chandelier should be about 24 inches for its diameter

2. How to determine the chandelier’s height

Measure the space’s floor to ceiling distance in feet, multiple by 2.5 will be the approximate height for the chandelier in inches. This rule mainly apply to pendant style chandelier while not necessarily apply to ceiling style chandelier.

For example 11 feet (Room Height), 11*2.5 = 27.5 The chandelier should be about 27.5 inches for its height

3. How to determine how high should the chandelier to be hanged

If you are hanging the chandelier on an open floor, chandelier’s bottom should at least be 7.5 feet away from the floor.

If you are hanging the chandelier above a dining table or kitchen island, chandelier’s bottom should be 30 to 36 inches away from the tabletop.

Other rules and tips apply to different types of spaces.

Besides those general rules that apply to most spaces, there are other rules and tips for different areas, like what size chandelier should be used for the dining room and what about foyers?

Dining Room & Kitchen island

If you are hanging the chandelier above your dining table or kitchen island, you can also decide the size of the chandeliers based on the size of your dining table or kitchen island. We generally recommend that the length or diameter of the chandelier should be between 1/2 and 3/4 of the length of the dining table or kitchen island.

For example, let's say that you have a dining table with 60 inches in length. The chandelier should be between 30 (60 x 1/2) to 45 (60 x 3/4) inches in diameter or length (Same here 1/2 to 3/4 of the kitchen island length)

Two-Story Foyer with Staircase

Besides the general rule that the chandelier’s bottom should be at least 7 and a half feet away from the floor. For two stories, what you also need to consider is how will it look from the second floor. In general, staircase chandeliers will be a good choice for space. In term of placing, below are two commonly seen guidance:

The general guideline is to use the second floor as a reference point. Hanging the chandelier slightly lower than or at the top of the staircase. This way, when you are at the top of the staircase, the top of the chandelier will be at your eye-level.

On the other hand, many designers advocate for independent placement just to make the chandelier the focal point or placing the chandelier about another architectural features. For example. if there is a large transparent window above the door, it should be centered in the window for best visual result from outside.

Long Hallways

Chandelier size for hall ways should be determined by the width of the hallway. Multiple the hallway’s width in feet by 2.5 will be the diameter of the chandelier in inches.

For example, the hallway’s width is 8 feet. The chandelier’s diameter should be about 20 (8 x 2.5) inches

Centered in the middle of the hallway
Spaced between 8 and 10 feet apart
At least 7 and half feet clearance from floor to bottom of chandelier.

Answer:The recommendation is to keep the bottom of the chandeliers at least 7 Feet away from the floor. Take the size D31.5" x H86.6" as an example, it is recommended to have a ceiling more than 14.25 feet.

Answer:We do not attached all the strings to the canonpy since it will be easily twined together during shipping. We have all the strings marked with number. It should not be hard to be hooked and just take some time.

Question:Installation?
Answer:Unfortunately, we do not have that services. We sell around the world and we do not have local teams everywhere. We normally suggest calling several of your local electricians to compare the price of the installation. Some of our customers only ask the electrician to install the base (electrical) part and they will hang the crystal themselves to save money. (You can rent tools from home depot or other similar stores if you have a high ceiling) All the small crystals are chained up together, you just need to connect the big crystals at the end. Then hook up the crystal string to the base by following the instruction, It is not that hard as long as you follow the instruction, but it does take time. We would recommend opening the box just to make sure that you have everything in the box before scheduling an appointment with electricians. Some of our customers only ask the electrician to install the base (electrical) part and they will hang the crystal themselves to save money. (You can rent tools from home depot or other similar stores if you have a high ceiling). If you don’t feel comfortable doing so, you can hire an electrician or a handyman to finish the whole project for you.

Answer:Unfortunately, we do not have that services. We sell around the world and do not have local team everywhere. We normally suggest calling several of your local electricians to compare the price about the installation. Some of our customers only ask the electrician to install the base (electrical) part and they will hang the crystal themselves to save money. (You can rent tools from home depot or other similar store if you have a high ceiling)

Answer:Hi Harry, The chandelier CH002 does not include bulbs and it requires GU10 bulbs, LED type. For the GU10 type: max. 50W halogen or max. 9W LED. We recommend you to use dimmable LED bulbs which will work with a dimmer switch and you should be able to find them easily in your local stores like Walmart or Home Depot.

Gorgeous, so worth the investment in Money and Time

Gorgeous, looks better in my home than what I envisioned it would look like, seeing how beautiful it looked on the website. I hired a handy man to install. He only charged $400, but I ended up paying him about $750 because of the time required to meticulously assemble chandelier. Its not complex or rocket science, its just time consuming to keep all the wires from getting tangled. During installation, wires got horribly tangled and had to be untangled. Most professional shops wanted to charge me $1,800 to $2,700 for this installation. At these prices I had decided that I would not order because installation would be more than the chandelier itself. Sofary could do a better job with installation video going through the details of how to install with techniques for how to install without getting wires tangled, they should demonstrate this in video and demonstrate in video, how to safely attached fixture to sealing wood struts........this way non-technical people who might want to order these and who do not have $3,000 to have electricians install this for them, can share these videos with handymen who can easily do this if shown how to do this. I believe sales of these products could increase dramatically if Sofary took the time to demonstrate for ordinary people how they can get handy men to install this for them at a reasonable process in their homes, that do not have to be mansions or very large homes but in regular every day homes. the Chandeliers are just so…
